When a fierce storm strikes Malio Island, the villagers pray for a miracle. What they receive instead is an ornate canoe, and a baby boy they name Tama. He is raised as the chief’s son and heir, but his wife believes he has taken the rightful place of her son and plots his downfall. When bad luck blights the village’s fortunes Tama is blamed and cast out to live in the poorest household on the island. There he meets another outcast – and a true ally. Art series that showcases talented New Zealand artists from a wide range of disciplines. Tonight: Kete Aronui travels with painter Lorene Taurerewa to document the lead-up to her first solo show in New York.

The life and times of Sir Paul Reeves - the first Maori Governor-General, the youngest bishop to be ordained in NZ, former Archbishop of the NZ Anglican Church and Chancellor of AUT, and negotiator for the Te Atiawa treaty claim. Screening as part of the ‘Knowing Ourselves, Knowing Each Other’, a season of NZ On Air-funded documentaries. (REPEAT)

Series final. Profiles Maori leaders who have challenged, outraged and inspired their people and the nation. Today: Maori Party President, Professor Whatarangi Winiata.

A village leader dies in an accident while on a trading expedition, and a struggle ensues over who will be his successor.  The victor will be the one who best understands the modern world. Set amidst the breathtaking scenery in the mountains of Nepal.
