As a film student, Vincent Ward made In Spring One Plants Alone, travelling to a remote area of Te Uruwera to document the lives of an elderly Tuhoe woman, Puhi, and her schizophrenic son. In Rain of the Children the director returns to her story to discover the truth about why she considered herself to be cursed. Chosen at the age of 12 to marry the son of prophet Rua Kenana, Puhi lived in a time of upheaval for her people, as well as personal tragedy. Ward combines drama and documentary to show the truth about her early years. Featuring performances by Rena Owen and Temuera Morrison.

When man entered Asia through the Nile Valley and the area of western Asia known as the fertile crescent, some settled in the barrier of mountains of the north. Isolated cultures emerged, and unique ethnic groups developed.
EAST WEST 101 – Tuesday July 6 at 9.30 PM
Series premiere! Muslim detective, Zane Malik, fights crime in metropolitan Sydney, an Arab man in a post 9/11 world who combats suspicion and fear to prove himself. His nemesis is another detective, Crowley, an old school operator more interested in getting a result than following the rules. Their battle of wills plays out in the series, a quest for dominance that also serves as a metaphor for the fear that exists between the eastern and western worlds. Tonight: When a police officer is killed, Malik must use his connections in the Arab community to track down the two youths involved. An award-winning programme that won three awards at the 2009 AFI Awards, including Best TV Drama Series. In 2010, series two won two Logie Awards, winning Most Outstanding Drama Series, ahead of fellow nominee, Underbelly. Maori Television will play both series back to back.
