HUNTING SEASON STARTS AT MAORI TELEVISION

TUESDAY MARCH 16 2010

The hunting season has begun at Maori Television with a brand new series of HUNTING AOTEAROA firing up on Thursday, March 18 at 9.30 PM.

Presented by good keen huntsman and entertainer Howie Morrison Junior, this sixth season of the popular show sees the HUNTING AOTEAROA team heading out on expeditions across New Zealand – and Rarotonga – to bag their game.

The series starts out at Mt Nicholas, the South Island high country sheep station where Morrison reunites with helicopter pilot Richard “Hannibal” Hayes to shoot deer. Venturing into some spectacular southern scenery, they weren’t expecting an encounter with a group of territorial New Zealand falcons.

Morrison also checks out hunting spots at Lake Tekapo, Te Anau, Christchurch, Nelson and Motueka during a month-long hunting trip in the South Island.

Then it’s back up north for jaunts to the East Coast and Northland, a pig hunting competition in Wellsford with former All Black Glen Osborne and a bow shooting competition at the Pine Ridge Archery Club in Manukau.

Rotorua-based Morrison also travels to Rarotonga this year, where he hunts wild pigs and goats with villagers, and talks to a local who is dedicated to protecting the native birdlife on the island.

HUNTING AOTEAROA producer Piripi Curtis, from Hikoi Productions, says the series aims to capture the pace and excitement of hunting wild game in New Zealand and to meet the characters involved in it.

“The beauty of this show is you get to meet lots of fantastic, salt-of-the-earth people,” he says.

HUNTING AOTEAROA is a must-see show for hunting and shooting enthusiasts starting on Thursday, March 18 at 9.30 PM on Maori Television.

Tune in to see some of the country’s wildest scenery and the best shooting action on television.
