ANZAC FROM THE ATTIC – ON MĀORI TELEVISION

Thursday, 29 November 2007 - Lifestyle & Entertainment

Maori Television is appealing for people with ANZAC taonga or hidden family treasures and memorabilia from the war days to participate in filming for next year’s marathon broadcast to mark New Zealand’s national day of commemoration on Friday April 25. ` For the third year in a row, the channel will devote its entire broadcast schedule to A TATOU TAONGA: ANZAC DAY 2008 including coverage of key memorial ceremonies at home and overseas as well as veteran interviews, studio debates and documentaries.   The inaugural all-day broadcast in 2006 won several major awards including Best Event Broadcast at the Air New Zealand Screen Awards, Best NZ Sports or Event Coverage at the Qantas Television Awards and Best Documentary for the TV Guide Best on the Box People’s Choice Awards.  Producer Jasmine Pujji says many Kiwi families throughout the country have objects of special significance that tell the war story of an ancestor, a relative or even themselves.  While some have been kept carefully and cherished for decades, passed down from generation to generation, others are more recent discoveries or even bought at auction, explains Jasmine. Each one has its own story and significance to those who look after them.   “The production team behind A TATOU TAONGA: ANZAC DAY 2008 is looking for people to share their hidden war time treasures and tell the stories behind them as part of the new From the Attic segment of the programme.  “If you think you have something to ‘show and tell’ – it does not have to be substantial, just special to you – it’s time to dust off the treasure chest, rifle through the attic and send the details to anzacday@maoritelevision.com.”  Viewers can call the helpline on 0800 MA TATOU (0800 628 2868) for advice on how to tune into Maori Television which is available on channel 5 on Freeview; channel 19 on Sky Digital and channel 6 on Sky UHF; and free-to-air on UHF or using a satellite dish and receiver.  Ends
